Firefighters respond to fatal truck accident at Interstate 91 bridge
On Tuesday, February 5th at about 7:30 am the Brattleboro Fire Department was dispatched to Interstate 91 for a report of a motor vehicle accident. During their response, information was received that the accident involved a tractor trailer which had gone over the Williams Street Overpass with explosion and fire.
Throughout the incident operations brought to a second alarm, calling all off duty Brattleboro Firefighters as well as mutual aid to cover the Brattleboro fire stations. Assistance was also given on scene from the Dummerston, VT Fire Department, Springfield, VT Fire Department with their decontamination trailer, the Vermont Hazardous Materials Team, Vermont Emergency Management, Central Vermont
Public Service, Brattleboro Police, Vermont State Police, Windham County Sheriff's Department, Brattleboro Rescue Inc., Brattleboro Public Works and Vermont Department of Transportation.
Initial fire supression was hampered due to downed power lines blocking access to the truck. The accident resulted in diesel fuel spilled in the area and required extensive clean-up prior to Williams Street re-opening at about 3 pm Wednesday afternoon. The accident killed the driver of the truck and also involved a second vehicle in which the occupants were treated/transported by Rescue Inc.

Brattleboro Firefighters battle bus fire
Shortly after 7am on January 21st, Brattleboro Firefighters responded to a report of a bus with an engine compartment fire on Putney Road. On arrival, units found a Connicticut River Transit bus with heavy fire in the in the engine and passenger compartments. The on duty captain requested a first alarm bringing in an additional engine company, personnel and the Fire Chief to assist in extinguishing the blaze.
